Mechanisms of apoptosis in the immune system; role of apoptosis in tumorigenesis; mechanisms of cell death induced by pharmacologic/toxicologic agents.

Research Activities

We have developed colonic epithelial cell lines that are stably resistant to the pro-apoptotic effects of bile acids. These independent clones apparently have become resistant throught different signal-transduction pathways. We are currently working on the mechanisms of apoptosis resistance. We anticipate that this work will lead to the development of intermediate biomarkers that will identify patients that at risk for developing colon cancer.
